NFFTY 2009 Exceeds Attendance and Web Traffic Goals
Film Festival Celebrating Youth-made film creates buzz for all ages
Seattle, WA – April 27, 2009. NFFTY 2009 enjoyed record attendance at its 3rd annual festival held at Seattle Cinerama and Seattle Center (April 24-26). NFFTY screened 113 films from youth ranging in age from 7 to 22, representing 27 states and 8 countries. All genres of film were presented including animation, shorts, music videos, documentaries, and feature films.
NFFTY attendance set new records, exceeding prior year’s attendance by 225%, with an estimated 4,000 filmgoers over the 2-½ day event. The festival began with a sold out Friday Gala Opening Night at Seattle Cinerama and Experience Music Project | Science Fiction Museum Hall of Fame, followed a weekend of 21 screenings and 4 industry-led panels.
NFFTY 2009 was operated as a carbon neutral event, as certified by carbonfund.org. This ethic, as well as a special screening of films with environmental, social justice, and peace themes, is part of NFFTY Earth, the organization’s campaign to promote the power of youth-made film to positively affect social change.
Web traffic to the NFFTY website and ancillary links also exceeded expectations. A separate online festival held via Indieflix just prior to the main fest garnered over 800 voters. Page views exceeded 55,000 for the festival via its b-side link.
“We are thrilled by the attendance and enthusiasm for this year’s festival,” said Jesse Harris, NFFTY Executive Director. “And equally satisfying is the response from the 50 filmmakers who were able to personally attend the festival and experience the excitement of having large audiences view their work.”
